Wintershall Worldwide

Company Wintershall in Russia

Wintershall is Germany's largest internationally active oil and gas producer and a 100 percent subsidiary of BASF, the world's largest chemical company. With around 2,000 employees from over 50 countries, we have been producing crude oil and natural gas for more than 80 years – in Europe, North Africa, South America, Russia and the Middle East region.

The exploration & production of oil and gas is our core business. Our technical expertise, pioneering innovations and strong international partnerships provide the basis for our success.

Corporate Profile Our value chain

Corporate Profile Our value chain

From the search for oil and gas to complex production technology: Wintershall is involved from the first to the last step of production. It starts with exploration, which revolves around the search for oil and gas reserves.

The assessment stage determines whether Wintershall will develop the field. It costs a considerable amount of money to develop reservoirs to the point when production can begin. We plan this in detail - because the production from a field can last between 10 and 40 years. To extend this time period, we apply innovative techniques: for example, water injections or enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods. These enable even more oil to be recovered when conventional technologies are no longer sufficient.

Strategy Partners. Innovation. Operational Excellence.

Strong partnerships and decades of expertise in the production of oil & gas form the foundations of Wintershall. In Russia, where we have been working together with our partners Gazprom and Lukoil for more than a quarter century, we jointly operate successful joint ventures. In our partnerships we incorporate our know-how and innovative production methods tested in Germany in order to achieve our ambitious goals.
